Everyday is an amazing gift of life. So many times, too many times, we are reminded that life is so short and each day we get to breath, dream, live, laugh and enjoy our days is a blessing. As we reflect on this year we are reminded how grateful we are for our family, friends, teachers, acquaintances and readers for the support and love through these years. In sharing our stories with you, we have built such an amazing network and we are so humbled to have you all as a part of this journey.

Today, we are asking for your help! Please Check your Cheek for Pawan. and for so many others in our community that need your help. This is the one of the few times that ethnicity makes a huge difference so we need our South Asian community to step up.

Over this past Thanksgiving, a dear family friend and brother in law of Sheena’s best friend, Pawan, was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This devastating news came just six weeks after the couple welcomed their beautiful baby boy into this world.

Pawan has started chemotherapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. However, before Pawan can move past his disease and enjoy the bright future that lies ahead, Pawan will need a bone marrow transplant very soon. It is absolutely necessary that we find a match for Pawan immediately – and we need YOUR help.

Here’s what you can do:

For US friends and family: Please register with Be The Match (https://join.bethematch.org/) to get tested. It takes 2 minutes. A cheek swab kit will be sent to your home. Complete it and send it back, free of charge. If you’re a match, you will be contacted and you can help Pawan or another patient in need with the simple prick of a needle.
